Camavinga towards forced retraining?

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has once again addressed the question of Eduardo Camavinga’s position, after surprising many by playing the Frenchman at left-back in the match against Girona.

It seemed Camavinga’s days at left-back were numbered this season, following the signing of Fran Garcia. But despite the presence of Ferland Mendy and Garcia for the match against Girona, Ancelotti opted to use Camavinga at left-back.

Ancelotti was asked about the Frenchman’s use in the position, given the young player said less than two weeks ago that he did not like playing defender.

“I think it’s an option. The good thing is that he is a complete player who can play in several positions. He prefers to play as a full-back rather than being on the bench.”

However, he clarified that the use of the midfielder in this position would be reserved for special occasions.

“He will not play left-back regularly. We have two full-backs who give us a lot of confidence, Fran and Mendy. This position is well covered…and that includes Camavinga.”

Camavinga impressed as a defender last season in many matches, and in some cases, notably in the Clasico against Raphinha last season, he proved unbeatable for his opposite number. However, when faced with a more positional attack, such as that of Manchester City, it became clear that this was not his natural position.
