The Ligue 1 calendar had to adapt to the Rugby World Cup. Without forgetting the problems of the condition of the lawns.

The rugby festival in France is not appreciated by everyone. We could, for example, talk about OM, a victim in some way of the calendar arranged due to the Rugby World Cup.

The Vélodrome stadium being requested to host several matches of the oval event in the fall of 2023, the Marseille team was moved away from its enclosure.

In September, only one of OM’s five matches took place at the VĂ©lodrome, against Toulouse on September 17 (0-0, 5th day of Ligue 1).

The TFC makes the same observation: almost a month outside the Stadium (between September 3 and this Sunday, October 1). The same goes for OGC Nice. His coach raised the other issue linked to the Rugby World Cup.

“ We left one of the most beautiful pitches in Ligue 1, it was perfect and today I saw the photos, it is not acceptable and respectful for the supporters but also for us”declared Francesco Farioli at a press conference, quoted by RMC Sport, about the Allianz Riviera land.

A hybrid lawn?

Since September 16, the start of the competition, the meadow of the Nice enclosure has been trampled by the high cleats of the rugby players during four matches. The Aiglons coach has a solution.

“ It is everyone’s responsibility that a hybrid pitch be installed after the match this Sunday (Nice-Brest)”, wishes the young Italian technician.
