Spanish football is still feeling the effects of the Luis Rubiales scandal.
The 46-year-old, who kissed Jenni Hermoso without her consent after Spain’s World Cup victory in August, ended up resigning as president of the Spanish Football Federation last month, after weeks depression.
Before resigning, Rubiales was suspended from his duties by FIFA. El Mundo has got its hands on the document used by world football’s governing body to notify Rubiales, and it’s safe to say that the terms used are not very careful.
FIFA believes that Rubiales’ actions have caused “irreparable damage to the world of football”, while adding that he “very significantly damaged the image, reputation and integrity of football”.
FIFA also found it very intolerable that Rubiales tried to pressure Hermoso and his entourage to testify in his favor, when he tried to get the La Roja star to say that the kiss was consensual.
Few will dispute FIFA’s assessment of Rubiales’ action, and it is a problem that Spanish football will have to deal with for some time to come.
