Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino has provided an update on the injury status of Lionel Messi, who missed his third consecutive match with Inter Miami.
Messi was once again absent from the Herons squad, which earned a 1-1 draw against New York City FC in Major League Soccer on Saturday. It was the third consecutive Inter Miami game that the legendary striker missed due to injury, leading to fears he might not feature again this season. But after the match, manager Gerardo Martino provided an update on the star’s injury, saying she was recovering quickly.
Speaking to reporters, Martino said: ” That’s what I said. We will see it game by game. We’ll evaluate him (before Wednesday’s game) against Chicago. If he has to be on the bench, if he has to come off the bench, whether it’s against Chicago or Cincinnati (next weekend). This is what we are going to see.
“ He is training on the field away from the group, but he is feeling better and better… Time will tell us if what I say is true or if the person who made the report is right.”
With Messi’s absence, the club went winless in three outings, including a loss to Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup final.
