Tottenham once again had an appointment for a Premier League shock. After facing Arsenal in the derby (1-1) last week, Spurs this time hosted Liverpool for another exciting meeting. Still undefeated in the league (with 5 consecutive victories), the Reds hoped to continue their momentum against an attractive Tottenham team who offer tempting football under the orders of Ange Postecoglou.
On paper, we obviously found the stars of each team. Liverpool’s attack was led by the trio Gakpo, Salah and Diaz while Tottenham presented themselves with Heung-min Son up front and supported by Maddison and Richarlison. And the match started very strong with a sustained pace. We needed an excellent Vicario on his line to prevent Liverpool from taking the advantage. But the match changed after Curtis Jones’ very big sole on Bissouma. After VAR intervention, the young English midfielder was excluded, leaving his partners at ten for a good part of the match (26th). Enough to reverse the trend of the match.
Liverpool and Matip end up cracking!
Following this exclusion, Spurs regained control of the ball and logically ended up opening the score. And who else but Heung-min Son to score? The South Korean took advantage of a good serve from Richarlison to score his 6th goal of the season in 7 matches (36th). But with a relaxation at the very end of the first period, Liverpool seized the opportunity to equalize at 10 against 11. It was Cody Gakpo who scored his goal (1-1, 45th + 7). And at the break, Jurgen Klopp, aware of the good result that this 1-1 would be in numerical inferiority, decided to bring in Diogo Jota in place of Gakpo to keep the balls.

The very active Portuguese international made a big mistake to further condemn his team. Shortly after the hour mark, he was guilty of two avoidable fouls in 2 minutes and was therefore excluded (68th). A huge blow for Liverpool who ended the match at… nine. The opportunity for Tottenham to push to finally score. But surprisingly, the Spurs were unable to shake up a solid opposing block while Klopp armored his defense with the entries of Konaté, Endo and Alexander Arnold. And in a completely improbable scenario, Tottenham ended up scoring at the very last second. On a harmless cross, Matip catapulted the ball into his own goal for an incredible CSC (90+6th) on the last ball of the match. Important victory for Tottenham which brings down Liverpool for the first time this season. But the scenario is cruel.
