Arriving in the summer of 2019 after revealing himself in the colors of Ajax Amsterdam, notably during the 2018-2019 European campaign of the Batavian giant, Frenkie de Jong had a difficult start with FC Barcelona. But the induction of Xavi Hernandez at the head of the Blaugrana changed the situation. Since then, the Dutch midfielder has had a string of good performances and has the absolute confidence of his coach, as evidenced by his appointment as vice-captain behind Marc-André ter Stegen.

Regularly announced as leaving as the transfer windows have gone by, the 26-year-old now seems closer to continuing the adventure in Catalonia. Under contract with the reigning Spanish champion until June 2026, Mundo Deportivo informs this Friday that the native of Gorinchem could extend his lease with the Catalan club. Started at the end of August, negotiations between Barcelona management and the player’s representatives have taken a positive turn in recent days. Concerning the terms of the new contract, the Spanish media adds that the Dutchman could extend for two years with the Blaugrana house. As a reminder, Frenkie de Jong is currently nursing an ankle injury and is expected to miss 5 to 7 weeks of competition.
