OM would have tried to convince Zinédine Zidane to take the coaching position this week, who would have refused the offer.
A man with a fiery temperament to put out the fire, that’s howOlympic Marseille will try to get out of the crisis, sporting at least, with the arrival of Gennaro Gattuso on the bench. After Marcelino’s short adventure and Jacques Abardonado’s two-match interim, the Italian coach takes over eight months after his departure from Valencia. The former Milanese led his first training session on Wednesday, the day of his appointment, and wants to establish a family atmosphere within a first team disrupted by many changes at the start of the season.
OM contacted Zidane
But Gattuso was not the only coach to be associated with OM in recent days, obviously. The Riviera club had contacted Christophe Galtier but both parties were afraid of the reception he would have received from Marseille supporters, already unhappy with their management. That of Zinedine Zidane would also have been mentioned by Olympian leaders at the time of their research.
🚨 Zinedine Zidane would have DECLINED the position of OM coach. ❌💙🤍
ZZ nevertheless does not say no to training Olympique de Marseille in the future, but only with a new owner.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Marseille management made an offer to the former Real Madrid coach, who is a native of Marseille. If he is keen to return to a bench after almost two and a half years without coaching, the 1998 world champion would have rejected the offer from Pablo Longoria and his teams, due to not having been convinced by the OM project. The Spanish daily even states that ZZ believes that it would take a change of management at the club to be able to convince him. Zidane, however, is not closing the door to a coaching position, such as for example at Real Madrid since Carlo Ancelotti will leave at the end of the season. The door to the French team is still blocked since Didier Deschamps has extended his lease until 2026.
