Olympique de Marseille has made an important announcement for the rest of its season.
It was expected, it is now official: Gennaro Gattuso is the new coach of Olympique de Marseille. The Marseille club has confirmed the arrival of the Italian technician. The former Naples coach has signed a contract that will bind him to OM until the end of the season, with an additional year as an option.
Gattuso therefore arrives with the objective of carrying out a commando mission to rectify the situation on a sporting level and restore the bond in a club divided for more than a week. Olympique de Marseille has been plunged into a deep and sudden crisis since a very tense meeting between management and supporter groups. An event which led to the immediate departure of Marcelino, whose game plan had not convinced him.
Gattuso begins his mission this Wednesday
If Pablo Longoria remained in charge of the club, the appointment of a new coach had a form of urgency. Jacques Abardonado took his place on the OM bench as interim coach for the matches against Ajax Amsterdam (3-3) and Paris Saint-Germain (0-4). The rest of the calendar promises to be just as tough, with Monaco in Ligue 1 then Brighton in the Europa League.
Gattuso, who arrives with a well-rounded staff, will be directly inducted into his functions to lead his first session this Wednesday, before being officially presented to the press during the day on Thursday.
