With a B team, Manchester City dropped their flag in the League Cup as soon as they entered the competition.

Manchester City will not win every competition this season. The Eastlands club has already let a goal slip away. This Wednesday, he was kicked out of the League Cup at the 16th stage.

A harmless City without Haaland

Guardiola’s team was knocked out by Newcastle United (0-1), unfortunate finalist last season and who is PSG’s future opponent in the Champions League. The difference was only made by one goal and it was scored by Alexander Isak at the start of the second half (53e). The Swede made the difference by exploiting a serve from Joelinton.

Deprived of several of its executives, City was unable to react in this meeting. The reigning European champion only had two shots on target during the entire game. Erling Haaland, the Sky Blues scorer, started the match on the bench and remained there until the end. His coach did not see fit to incorporate him, probably thinking of future events which are more important in his eyes.

The other tenors of PL responded

Man City is not the only PL club to be knocked out in the Carabao Cup this Wednesday. This is also the case for Aston Villa, beaten at home by Everton (1-2). Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, on the other hand, all did the job. The Gunners won at Brentford (1-0), the Reds dominated Leicester on home soil (3-1) and the Blues gave themselves some breathing room by beating Brighton (1-0). As a reminder, the day before, Manchester City had easily disposed of Crystal Palace (3-0).
