Olympique de Marseille is going through a very turbulent period, behind the scenes, to find a new coach.
Projected to the forefront after the sudden departure of Marcelino, Jacques Abardonado experienced a very contrasting week in the tumult of Olympique de Marseille. After an encouraging first in Amsterdam against Ajax (3-3), the interim coach of OM did not find the solution in the Classic against Paris Saint-Germain (0-4). A scenario which inevitably exposed him to criticism.
José Anigo has experienced this type of situation well. The former OM coach is therefore well placed to talk about what Abardonado had to manage in very special circumstances.
“ You know, it’s not a normal situation when someone parachutes you like thislaunched Anigo in comments given to La Provence. You’re not really wired for that. For Pancho, in his head, it was not planned: there was a coach. He leaves and then we bomb him. I have experienced this situation, yes, two or three times. Marcelino came with a staff, with people on whom he relied, with whom he interacted. I think that, to help Pancho, what they could have done is give him the possibility of building a staff, even if it is one-off“.
“ That he can rely on people with more experience. Maybe that would have given him a different start. I also saw the match at Ajax, he did well. Against Paris, we can’t put everything on Pancho, that’s not true. Of course, when you are a coach, you have the responsibility. But I want to tell you that it’s difficult for him to get into something like that without staff.“, finished Anigo.
