Current leader of La Liga, FC Barcelona achieved an unprecedented performance in the 21st century by overthrowing Celta Vigo last Saturday (3-2, 6th day).
FC Barcelona supporters came very close to witnessing their team’s first defeat last weekend, when they hosted Celta Vigo. Trailing from the nineteenth minute of play, the Blaugrana then conceded a second goal a quarter of an hour from the end (76th). Trailing by two goals, Xavi’s men nevertheless overturned the table and the score to finally win. A scenario never seen in La Liga this century.
Since January 1, 2000, no Spanish team has ever managed to win in the league by being down by two goals in the eightieth minute of play. Alberto Edjogo confirmed this on DAZN. To achieve such a feat, Barça even did very well since they scored three goals in eight minutes, all in regulation time (81st, 85th and 89th). Already capable of beating the Catalans in the return match last season, Celta was not far from achieving another top performance.
Leader…barely
This fifth success in six championship matches in any case allowed Robert Lewandowski and his team to retain their leading position at the last minute, just ahead of the surprising Girona team which has the same number of points but also goals scored. It is in the number of goals conceded that Barcelona does better (six against seven).
