The Merengues failed to contain the Colchoneros well in place and effective at the Wanda Metropolitano. Facing Diego Simeone’s squad, the Italian manager chose to line up his legendary midfield duo from the outset, namely Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

If this were to be the case, both players would have to play their last season in the white tunic and set sail at the end of the season. The two legends are at the end of their contracts in June 2024.
