Real Madrid lost against its Madrid rival this Sunday, at the end of the 6th day of La Liga (1-3). A first hitch this season for the Merengue.

Received five out of five after a perfect start to the season from an accounting standpoint, Real Madrid donned their favorite costume to challenge Atlético this Sunday evening in a derby that was always electric. The Merengue remain orphans of Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Jr – ultimately forfeited after being reinstated in the group – but they have often played rain and shine against their rival from the capital in recent years. An eloquent figure could attest to this: Atlético had only signed one victory in its last 14 confrontations against Real.

Suffice to say that for the Griezmann gang, swept away against Valencia last week (0-3), Real looked like a small mountain. But against all expectations, it was Atlético who had the last word in this bitter and contested derby. More effective in the two zones of truth, the Colchoneros made the difference very quickly by opening the score through Morata (1-0, 4th), before doubling the lead through Griezmann (2-0, 18th).

Real powerless

A break which prompted Real to react. Ancelotti’s men reduced the score thanks to Kroos (2-1, 35th). But that was without counting on a new revolt from the locals, who dealt the blow as soon as they returned from the locker room by a very inspired Morata (3-1, 46th). The second act was more restrained, as fatigue gained ground. Jude Bellingham remained silent this time. The carrot was nice since Real could regain its first place by passing Barça and beating two rivals for one evening. It missed.
