The Parc des Princes resonated more than usual this Sunday evening to host the first edition of the Classic this season. To close the 6th day of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Olympique de Marseille in its den. Beaten at home by OGC Nice last week (2-3), Luis Enrique made one change compared to the victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this Tuesday (2-0) by starting Bradley Barcola instead from Vitinha. For his part, Jacques Abardonado set up a five-man defense to limit damage outside. The two teams also had the opportunity to find the leading teams in the event of victory, which foreshadowed an incandescent clash.

And the players of the capital club ideally launched this prestigious meeting with a missile from Achraf Hakimi into the top corner of Pau Lopez after obtaining a very well placed free kick (8th, 1-0). While Kylian Mbappé was hit in the ankle a quarter of an hour into the game (15th), the Marseillais threw themselves into attack and Jonathan Clauss delivered a superb cross to the head of Vitinha who propelled the leather onto the crossbar of Gianluigi Donnarumma ( 22nd). A few minutes later, the Parisian striker gave way to Gonçalo Ramos (32nd) while Randal Kolo Muani took advantage of a new dangerous strike from Achraf Hakimi, who bounced off the post and Pau Lopez before returning to the former player from Eintracht Frankfurt, to open his goal counter with PSG (37th, 2-0).

PSG returns to the podium

Returning from the locker room, Jacques Abardonado made two changes with the introductions of Amine Harit and Iliman Ndiaye. Despite the good intentions displayed by the Marseille coach, the Parisians also returned to the field with the same offensive desires. In the wake of the Olympians’ commitment, Ousmane Dembélé sent Gonçalo Ramos into orbit whose superb call allowed him to arrive first on the ball to propel it into the back of the net (47th, 3-0). After this new blow to the head, the players of the Marseille club began to lose track of this match and increased the number of bad choices and technical errors. Nevertheless, Valentin Rongier’s teammates showed a lot of desire not to completely sink against the historic rival.

The Parisians then took back their seat in the Marseille area without straining their talent. Easy, they rotated the ball while waiting for a gap in the opposing defense. The Phocaeans, unable to react, suffered for many minutes. The two coaches then made numerous changes which somewhat disrupted the rhythm of this meeting. At the very end of the match, Gonçalo Ramos scored twice to complete the Parisian success (89th, 4-0). With this second victory in a week, PSG confirms its return to the forefront. Marquinhos’ teammates now occupy 4th place in Ligue 1 at the foot of the podium while OM remain stuck in 7th position after a very eventful week on the Canebière.
