At the end of the first day of the European Cups, France is back strongly on the Netherlands in the UEFA index ranking.

Good start to the European season for French clubs. At the end of a well-controlled continental week, they did not lose any of their six matches. In the Champions League, while PSG beat Dortmund (2-0), Lens managed to get a point (1-1) against Sevilla. While Rennes outclassed Maccabi Haifa (3-0) in the Europa League.

In the Europa Conference League, LOSC won against the modest Olimpija Ljubljana (2-0). Note all the same the two very good zero results garnered away in C3 by Toulouse on the ground of Union Saint-Gilloise (1-1) and by OM, which in a context of crisis and with a interim coach, managed to snatch a point from a draw against Ajax Amsterdam (3-3).

Very good news for France, which is regaining some ground on its major competitor, the Netherlands. No defeat can therefore be attributed to France during this first continental day this week. A performance which earns it 1.5 points, for a total of 53.831 in the UEFA index ranking of which it occupies sixth place behind the Netherlands.

Delicate week for the Netherlands

Fifth, the Dutch and their four qualified clubs were not successful. The only victory came on Tuesday in the Champions League for Feyenoord against Celtic FC (2-0). But PSV sank against Arsenal (4-0) and, above all, AZ lost against the modest Bosnian team of Zrinjski (4-3) in the Europa Conference League, while Ajax did not failed to dominate OM.

As a reminder, 5th place in the UEFA index has a major stake. It allocates three directly qualifying places for the Champions League, but also an additional place in the preliminary round of the C1. It also gives access to two places in the Europa League and one in the Europa Conference League.
