FIFA has just revealed its world rankings. Unsurprisingly, Argentina keeps the lead and even widens the gap on its pursuers, including France.
Fifa published this Thursday, September 21, 2023, the new Coca-Cola ranking of national football teams. This update, which comes after the international break in September, saw the selections compete for the 2026 World Cup and Euro 2024 qualifiers or simple friendly matches.
In this new ranking, little change has been made at the top of the table. Argentina consolidates its first place after its successes against Ecuador (1-0) then Bolivia (3-0) during qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
The Blues are losing ground
For its part, France, vice-world champion, retains its second place, but is losing ground following its defeat against Germany (2-1), in a friendly match last week. Indeed, the Albiceleste, reigning world champion, took the opportunity to increase its lead over France (+10.65 points).
The Blues’ second place is therefore now seriously threatened by Brazil, also winner of their two meetings in September against Bolivia (5-1), then Peru (1-0). The South Americans, third, are 3.15 points behind France. While England (4th) and Belgium (5th) remain lurking in the Top 5.

The next ranking will be published on October 26 after the international window scheduled for October 9 to 19. On this occasion, the French team will travel to the Netherlands, to Amsterdam, on October 13 to try to validate its ticket for the Euro in Germany next summer.
