Advisor to the president of OM, and former glory of the Marseille club, Jean-Pierre Papin is in Amsterdam for Ajax-OM. A place where he and the Olympians surprised us 35 years ago.
Times have changed a lot since then but Jean-Pierre Papin, current advisor to a president Pablo Longoria in turmoil, has already beaten Ajax on home soil, with the OM jersey. The small feat, it was one at the time, took place on April 20, 1988 during the semi-final second leg of the Cup Winners’ Cup.
Corrected by the Dutch in the first leg at the Vélodrome stadium (0-3), OM won for the honor, 2-1, with goals from Jean-Pierre Papin and a free kick from the German Klaus Allofs.
35 years later, the 1991 Ballon d’Or is once again in Amsterdam. Jean-Pierre Papin is part of the Marseille delegation, at least what remains of it, on the occasion of this Ajax-OM counting for the first day of the Europa League.
