Maignan, the disaster?

Weighed down by physical problems last season, Mike Maignan was injured during the meeting between AC Milan and Newcastle (0-0).

This is the bad news of the evening for AC Milan. Mike Maignan, Rossoneri executive, was injured during the Champions League meeting between the Lombard club and Newcastle (0-0). The Blues goalkeeper sat down, before bringing in the medical staff and demanding a change, and the entry of Marco Sportiello (81st).

Maignan is already coming out of a season where he was weighed down by injuries, in particular calf problems which deprived him of the 2022 World Cup with the Blues. For the former Lille resident, we hope that it is not the same area that is affected.

Milan not rewarded

In the end, it was a frustrating evening for AC Milan, who lost their goalkeeper to injury, and who only took one point at home against Newcastle (0-0). But at least Stefano Pioli’s men are reassured in their manner, after the slap received in the derby against Inter (5-1) on Saturday.

The Rossoneri largely dominated this meeting (25 shots, 8 on target), especially in the first period, and stifled the Magpies who were largely discovering the Champions League (6 shots, only 1 on target). Fortunately for the English, Nick Pope multiplied the parades, notably in front of Olivier Giroud (14th) and Theo Hernandez (19th). But it was above all the Milan attackers who narrowly missed the finish, like Giroud (32nd), who did not target his recovery after a supersonic counter-attack led by Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao, or even Leao himself, author of a sensational rush but who lost his support when it came time to strike (34th).

Newcastle will be satisfied with this point before hosting Paris Saint-Germain on the next day. In this group which promises to be very competitive, AC Milan could regret this draw at home.
