Broadcaster of the Champions League, beIN Sports will not be able to offer the Young Boys of Bern matches. The sponsor of the Swiss club is not authorized in France.
To follow the Champions League this season, it’s not complicated. It is still Canal+ which holds the rights to the best Tuesday poster and the best Wednesday poster, like last year, and which will therefore broadcast the matches of PSG and RC Lens during the group stage (in co -broadcast with RMC Sport).
All other matches, theoretically, were to be broadcast on beIN Sports. But this will not entirely be the case. The Qatari channel confirmed this Tuesday that it will not be able to offer its subscribers the meetings of the Young Boys of Bern. The reason ? The Swiss club is sponsored by Plus500, a financial transactions platform registered in Cyprus, and whose activity presents a “high risk of rapid loss of capital” as indicated in the banner on its website.
The DGCCRF, the General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, therefore prohibited beIN Sports from broadcasting Young Boys matches, so as not to offer advertising to this company (which, by Streisand effect , is the case). “Any broadcast showing one of the sponsors of this team would constitute prohibited advertising”explains the channel.
This will deprive beIN Sports of two matches against Manchester City, the reigning European champion. Note that a similar case occurred last season with Atalanta Bergamo, with this same sponsor, and whose matches were banned from broadcast in France.
