A big surprise in Deschamps’ next list?

While the French team could do with new blood at right-back, the performances of Sacha Boey (23 years old) with Galatasaray do not go unnoticed.

If there is one position where Didier Deschamps is not overwhelmed by options, it is this one. To play right back in the France team, the coach recently called on Benjamin Pavard and Jules Koundé, two trained central defenders, who claim their preference to play in the center. To provide competition, Jonathan Clauss was tested several times, but the former Lensois is more of a right piston, and he has not been called up since the Blues found a system with four defenders.

Pavard and Koundé therefore continue to be called up, for lack of anything better, but they were not transcendent, once again, during the last two meetings against Ireland (2-0) and Germany (1-2) . However, there is a French right-back who is starting to be talked about more and more on the European scene. His problem is undoubtedly that he does not play in France or in one of the four major championships, but in Turkey. It is indeed Sacha Boey, the Galatasaray player.

At just 23 years old, the player trained in Rennes has established himself as an indisputable starter within the prestigious Istanbul club, which has a squad that would put almost all Ligue 1 clubs to shame (Muslera, Davinson Sanchez, Angelino, Torreira, Ndombélé, Ziyech, Zaha, Mertens, Icardi…). He even pushed out a French international, Léo Dubois (13 caps), who crossed the city to join Istanbul Basaksehir.

Boey played 31 matches last season in the Turkish Süper Lig, and he played the entirety of Galatasaray’s first 10 matches this season. The native of Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) is still little known in France, because he played little with Rennes, before being loaned for a season to Dijon then heading to Turkey, and he was very rarely called up in selection of young people. But with the Champions League approaching, and matches against Manchester United and Bayern Munich, this right-back in full progress could see his rating rise further…
