FC Barcelona: Robert Lewandowski is in danger

Last season, FC Barcelona made the very big move Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich star was pushing to leave Germany and join the Catalan club. A successful transfer on paper since he scored 33 goals in 46 matches (including 23 goals and 7 assists in La Liga) and thus largely contributed to the title at the end of the season. However, last season, the Pole had more complicated times.

Despite his impressive statistics, the 36-year-old striker also showed some clumsiness in front of goal. And with a very limited squad, Xavi could not afford to send Lewandowski to the bench. No other number 9 was available behind him. But this year it should be very different. For several months now, RL9 has slowly started to be the center of criticism for its performance. Since the start of 2023, his level seems to have dropped significantly both with Barça and with Poland where he is also starting to question.

Competition exists this year

He has only scored 6 goals in his last 15 national team matches and 10 in his last 21 La Liga matches. This season, he started with 2 goals in 4 games but that does not seem to convince Xavi. And according to information from Sport, Barça could soon decide to send the Polish star to the bench. The arrival of Joao Felix offers an additional option in a hybrid attacking position but above all it was Ferran Torres who scored points.

The Spanish international is scoring goals at the start of the season and Xavi wants to take advantage of his current form (4 goals in 90 minutes of playing time at the start of the season). Finally, even Barça management is starting to put pressure on Lewandowski. Recently, Déco, new sporting director of the Blaugranas, explained that the Brazilian nugget Vitor Roque could arrive more quickly than expected at Barça (next January while he was due to arrive in the summer of 2024). A new competitor for Lewandowski therefore and which could make his future even more unclear in the event of a poor performance this year.
