The sporting director of PSG opposed the signing of the strong man of Real Madrid a year ago.
Luis Campos was greatly praised for his work during the 2023 summer transfer window. On the other hand, during that of 2022, he was not very inspired. And this was confirmed this Friday with the revelations made by Le Parisien.
Campos said no to recruiting Bellingham
If we rely on information disclosed by Le Parisien, Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s right-hand man was offered the services of the excellent Jude Bellingham by one of his representatives. The latter was still in Dortmund then and his value was not as high as this year. The Spaniard was not seduced by this option.
To those who approached him, Campos replied that he already had a quality midfielder in his squad, in the person of Zaire-Emery. The latter had not yet played a single minute with the PSG first team, but the sporting director was convinced of his qualities and his future explosion. He even claimed that he was on the same level as the English nugget.
With hindsight, it is clear that Campos was not really wrong about Zaire-Emery. Even if Bellingham is now playing at a higher level, notably with an impressive debut for Real Madrid, the young French midfielder has proven him right. By establishing himself as a starter for the French champions at just 17 years old, he demonstrated that he is indeed a player apart.
