Gianluigi Donnarumma and Keylor Navas could quickly find themselves in a situation they experienced previously. That of fierce competition.

In the Italian press, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the subject of numerous criticisms due to certain average performances in the selection. He is notably criticized for not having progressed since his departure from AC Milan for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021.

In the capital, the Italian goalkeeper could once again find himself in competition with Keylor Navas. Pushed towards the exit last season and loaned for six months to Nottingham Forest, the Costa Rican preferred to stay at the Parc des Princes. According to The Team, Donnarumma was assured by Luis Campos to start as a starter while the Portuguese advisor was loaned to put him in competition. “The criticism does not affect him and the retention of Navas in the squad does not concern him since he is not the one who decides. He is professional, happy in Paris and good with the goalkeeper at his side”assures someone close to the former AC Milan goalkeeper in the columns of the sports daily.

However, each of Gigio Donnarumma’s performances will be closely observed and likely to relaunch the debate on competition in this very special position of PSG goalkeeper. This would not have been the case if the Spaniard Arnau Tenas, recruited freely this summer after four years spent in the Barça reserve, had been the Italian’s understudy.
