Doping in football, the outburst of anger

When discussing Paul Pogba’s current situation, journalist Bertrand Latour angrily spoke about football and doping.

Tested positive for testosterone after ingesting a medication provided to him by a doctor friend, Paul Pogba found himself in the eye of the storm. Temporarily suspended by his club Juventus Turin, the French midfielder assured that he had absolutely nothing to do with it and is now awaiting the results of the counter-analysis. He risks between two and four years of suspension depending on whether intentionality is demonstrated or not. In the meantime, some observers have broadened the debate on doping in football.

Particularly annoyed on the subject, Bertrand Latour put his feet in the matter on Wednesday, on the set of the channel The Team. “ I simply note that in this sport, firstly, we consider that doping does not exist. Michel Platini said ‘to score a free kick in the top corner, doping is useless’. We have this culture where we think that no one takes drugs. And this probably remains to be proven because we do doping in all sports, and the sport which generates the most money in Europe, there would be no doping? That already seems curious to me.

“At some point, you have to take responsibility”

And the journalist mentioned another observation. “ I find that there is no awareness on the part of the players, perhaps not enough on the part of the clubs, and that is extremely damaging. And you have no right to allow yourself this levity. (Paul) Pogba is not eighteen, he has thirty bars. If you take a medication, a food supplement, without consulting your club, and you know exactly how it works, well that’s a mistake. I hope he can play football again, but at some point you have to accept.
