Matthijs de Ligt is having a complicated start to the season with Bayern Munich. Used to being part of the Munich central hinge under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann, the Dutch defender has fallen out of favor in Bavaria since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel. The arrival of Kim Min-Jae during the summer transfer window combined with the more than satisfactory performances of Dayot Upamecano alongside the Korean propelled the 24-year-old onto the substitutes’ bench.
According to information from the Munich newspaper Tz, his situation is not expected to improve anytime soon as Thomas Tuchel is not a big admirer of the Dutchman’s style of play. According to the German media, the Bavarian technician is currently reproaching his player for his slowness in building the game as well as his unfortunate habit of favoring lateral passes to the detriment of verticality. The strong personality of the former Juventus Turin player would also pose a problem for the ex-Chelsea coach. A reaction is therefore expected from Matthijs de Ligt.
