Wendie Renard, it’s over

At 33, Wendie Renard, the captain of Les Bleues and OL, is no longer one of the best players in the world in the new opus from EA Sports, renamed EA Sports FC 24. The 1.87m defender was the 3rd best player in FIFA 23.

Two weeks before the big release of EA Sports FC 24 (September 29), the new name of the FIFA series, Electronic Arts has revealed the 12 best players of its reference video game. Among the men, Erling Haaland is ahead of his teammate Kevin De Bruyne and Kylian Mbappé, while, among the women, it is Alexia Putellas, who stopped playing for 9 months, who is the “world number 1” ahead of her teammates. Barcelona Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen.

Two French internationals appear in the women’s top 12: Kadidiatou Diani is the 5th highest rated player in this “FC 24” (she has objectively been the best French player for several years), and Marie-Antoinette Katoto, who has however no longer played since July 2022 and a serious knee injury. Wendie Renard, who remains the captain and defensive pillar of the French women’s team and OL, at 33, is therefore ejected from the best players, even though she had been on the FIFA podium for four years!

EA Sports has integrated women’s teams since FIFA 16 and the giant Renard (1.87 m) has always been part of the international elite since 2019. She was 2nd best player in FIFA 20 (behind Megan Rapinoe), then 3rd in FIFA 21 (behind Megan Rapinoe and Kerr), 3rd in FIFA 22 (behind Vivianne Miedema and Lucy Bronze) and 3rd in FIFA 23 (behind Sam Kerr and Alex Morgan). The developers of EA Sports FC 24 have significantly lowered its rating. Without much logic.
