Paris Saint-Germain’s most successful player after more than a decade in the capital, Marco Verratti is however still not a legend of the French club, according to Jérôme Rothen.

The big clean-up continues at Paris Saint-Germain. After the already recorded departures of Lionel Messi for Inter Miami and Neymar for Al-Hilal, it is the turn of Marco Verratti to soon join Al-Arabi, in Qatar. During these eleven seasons spent with the capital club, the “Little Owl” won no less than nine French champion medals, six League Cups, and six French Cups. Also, the midfielder from Pescara participated in the change in dimension of the Ligue 1 resident club. However, the former Parisian, Jérôme Rothen, does not believe that the Italian deserves the status of PSG legend.

“(Marco) Verratti is one of the 20-30 players (who have marked the history of PSG). But I don’t see him as a legend. As an emblematic player who marked the history of the club, that is a certainty. (…) But I wouldn’t go as far as the word legend. For me, there can’t be 20 legends,” thus judged the former midfielder on the airwaves of RMC.

And the 2004 European vice-champion added: “ He is the most successful player. Even if the Qataris arrived with great resources that were not available before, it doesn’t matter. Titles, you have to win them, you have to be present. Staying at a club like PSG for more than 10 years is an achievement.”
