Thanks to its victory against Ukraine on Tuesday, Italy provisionally takes second place in Group C.

After a draw against Macedonia (1-1) last Saturday, a defeat against England (2-1) and a victory against Malta (2-0) in March, Italy had the obligation to win against Ukraine to maintain their chances of qualifying for Euro 2024. And this Tuesday for the reception of the Ukrainians at San Siro, the Italians fulfilled their mission.

In the first period, the Nazionale imposed its rhythm. This before very quickly finding the fault by Davide Frattesi (12′). The Inter Milan striker did it again eighteen minutes later. First refused due to offside, his goal was finally accepted after consultation with the VAR, allowing Luciano Spalletti’s men to take the break before the last quarter of an hour of play. Zbirna nevertheless managed to reduce the score before the break thanks to Andriy Yarmolenko.

During the second act, the Ukrainians showed themselves to be much more enterprising without however succeeding in making their opponents flinch due to a lack of realism.

Italy remains hopeful

Italy therefore won 2-1, had 7 points in four matches and provisionally took second place in Group C, behind England (13 points). There Blue Squad can still hope to take part in the next European Championship and why not retain their crown.
