Rui Pinto was on trial Monday for the so-called “Fooball Leaks” case. The whistleblower was convicted by a Lisbon court.
A whistleblower, he is at the origin of the “Football Leaks”, these millions of documents stolen in 2015 in which information was often confidential and sensitive. Rui Pinto had made it possible to reveal, for example, the amount of the salaries of Lionel Messi and Neymar or a supposed trend towards ethnic registration at Paris Saint-Germain.
The “Football Leaks” had sparked scandals and shocked a few people. The 34-year-old man had obtained all this data by illegally penetrating computer systems, a court in Lisbon (Portugal) ruled on Monday. Rui Pinto was sentenced to four years in prison for these intrusions.
