To try to save an FC Barcelona team then in the midst of sporting and financial turmoil, Xavi was called to the rescue to become the coach of the first team. A decision which quickly paid off for president Joan Laporta who saw his club be crowned champion of Spain a year and a half later. Enough to push both parties to continue their common adventure. A contract extension has been validated.
It is Mundo Deportivo who announced the information this Sunday. The Spanish media indicated that within a few days, the Blaugrana club will make public the one-year extension of the Catalan tactician. Currently under contract until the end of the current season, Xavi will therefore be extended until June 2025. Initially, it was a two-year lease extension that was mentioned, i.e. until the end of the mandate of president Joan Laporta. Ultimately, it will be a year earlier.

In addition to this new commitment, Xavi Hernandez will be entitled to “ a considerable increase in his salary“, clarified MD, without mentioning an exact amount. There is only one step left before announcing the news since Xavi must meet Deco, the new sporting director of Barça, whose official presentation is scheduled for next Wednesday.
