Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo says Al-Ittihad will continue to try to sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool.

Al-Ittihad, the reigning Saudi Pro League champions, wanted to sign Salah in the summer and reportedly made an offer of 150 million pounds which was rejected by the Reds. The Sun then reported that Al-Ittihad would submit another bid for an initial £170 million, which would rise to £215 million if various add-ons were taken into account. The club offered the player a whopping salary of 2.45 million pounds ($3 million) per week.

Although the Saudi club failed to sign Salah before the transfer window closed in England, Pro League director of football Emenalo said Al-Ittihad will continue their efforts to sign the Egyptian in the future.

Addressing Sky SportsEmenalo is far from closing the door: “ First of all, Mohamed Salah is one of the best players on the planet. I have already said, privately and publicly, that we welcome anyone who wants to come (in SPL), including Salah. But we have to do things in a very professional and respectful manner. That’s what we’re here for, that’s what the SPL has been refined for – to bring professionalism, respect for efficiency, and doing things competently.

“If it didn’t happen, it’s not because we don’t like the player anymore or because we have a problem with Liverpool. This is because some things that need to align for all parties involved in the process have not aligned. Nobody is upset, we are moving on, but we are absolutely not closing any doors and if the opportunity arises to do things and do them well – and that brings Mohamed Salah to the Saudi Pro League – we will be there. all very grateful.”

Salah signed a new contract last summer which runs until 2025 and the Premier League club have so far shown no interest in parting ways with their star player before his contract expires.
