Jordi Alba no longer had his place at Barça
Alba left Barca this summer for Inter Miami after struggling to get playing time last season. After a long spell at the Camp Nou, he was forced to clear the floor because he no longer fit in with his coach.
In a conversation after the end of the season, Xavi told Alba: “As a teammate, as a coach, as a culé, for me you were the best full-back who has ever passed through here. I wish you the best, it’s your home.”
“I already told you that we all wanted, and me first of all, for you to leave in style, I think you deserve it. And if at any point you were disappointed, especially in me, I regret it. It was nothing personal, you know that. I have a lot of affection, respect and admiration for you. You already know that I love you very much, I know that you have a very big heart. But you have to make decisions, and those decisions are often difficult, especially when it comes to training friends.”
In the left-back position, the one occupied by Alba, it is the young Spaniard Alejandro Baldé who has established himself as an indisputable starter within the Catalan team in recent months.
