Mohamed Salah will not join Al-Ittihad this summer, despite the Saudi Pro League club’s staggering offer for the Liverpool striker.

Speculation surrounding Salah’s future at Liverpool has intensified recently due to the Saudi club’s relentless pursuit of the 31-year-old. Foot Mercato ireports that the Egyptian will stay in the Premier League this summer. This is despite Nuno Espirito Santo’s Al-Ittihad record bid of £215million for Salah, an offer which understandably was extremely tempting for the Liverpool hierarchy.

It will be a blow to the Saudi state-owned professional league project, after a summer in which top players such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino all left Europe to Saudi Arabia. Salah would have been the crown jewel for Al-Ittihad, the current division champion. However, it looks like the team will have to look elsewhere for attacking talent before the Championship transfer window closes on September 7.

Despite the incredible amount of money on offer, given Salah’s status at Liverpool and the success he has enjoyed there over the years, one can imagine the 31-year-old will be happy to stay on the edge of the game. Mersey for now. And if Klopp’s side are able to challenge for the title at Manchester City this year, as Virgil van Djik believes, he will be extremely happy to stay put.
