Nigerian legend and show king Jay-Jay Okocha has explained why he prefers Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo in the football world championship debate.

The iconic playmaker, who wore the colors of Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton during his playing days, while earning 73 caps for his country, was renowned for his ability to lift supporters from their seats . More recently, Ronaldo and Messi have done the same.

Between them, they rewrote the record books (12 Ballons d’Or) and are guaranteed to be at the top of the list of all-time greats. Okocha is an admirer of both, but he admits they bring different qualities.

Asked about FM Capital, Okocha gave his perspective on one of the longest-running debates in the sports world: I think both rightly deserve to be GOATs, but I prefer Messi. For me, Cristiano Ronaldo is the epitome of what you can achieve with hard work, but for Messi it all comes naturally… and he works hard too.”

Messi regained his momentum after leaving PSG for MLS club Inter Miami, scoring 11 goals in 10 appearances while winning the 44th trophy of his remarkable career. Ronaldo is no slouch at 38, with the Portuguese having netted 12 goals in 11 outings for Al-Nassr this season, taking his tally to 850.
