LAFC striker Carlos Vela has spoken about Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he prepares to face Miami’s Inter.
Vela compared Messi and Ibrahimovic’s impact on MLS ahead of his side’s game against Inter Miami on Sunday. Messi has enjoyed Miami since his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain and has already won trophies with the Leagues Cup. As for Ibrahimovic, he scored 52 goals in 56 appearances for LA Galaxy but failed to win a title with the team, as noted by Vela.
“Zlatan dominated, but he didn’t win anything. Messi won in less time, these are not things that you can compare because they are different players, in different situations”, he told AS.
Messi didn’t score in his last outing for Miami against Nashville, but Vela knows the Argentina international will still be formidable when the two sides face off at BMO Stadium.
” I would be surprised if (Messi) played badly. It doesn’t matter where in the world, when you’re the best player, whatever league you play in, you’re fine. When you’re the best, it doesn’t matter where you go”he added. “The question that would surprise me is if he doesn’t score goals or if he doesn’t play, that would surprise me.”
Vela has come up against Messi many times during his career, whether he played in La Liga or against Argentina in a Mexico shirt. Still, the striker insists facing the World Cup winner next weekend won’t give him any extra motivation.
” No, the truth is that for me, being able to play, being healthy, being available for my team, that’s my motivation. And being able to go every weekend, to every game, to show that I’m a good player, to make people appreciate my football, that’s what motivates me.”he added.
“I don’t care who plays against me or who I’m going to do something against. I want to win, I want to play well, I want to do my best for my team. I don’t care about the rival, I don’t care who is ahead.
