While the transfer market has closed in Europe, Chelsea are the club that have spent the most this summer.

The 2023 summer transfer window closed its doors on Friday evening for the European championships, and as always, it will have been very lively. Between the emergence of Saudi clubs, the revival of Paris Saint Germain or even the crazy expenses of chelseathis transfer window period will have had its share of entertainment until the end, with in particular the signing in the last minutes of Randal Kolo Muani at PSG.

Chelsea far ahead, Saudi Arabia asserts itself

At the time of the balance sheet, it is without great surprise chelsea which occupies the first place in the ranking of the most expensive clubs. By recruiting Moises Caicedo (€116m), Roméo Lavia (€63m), Christopher Nkunku (€60m) and Cole Palmer (€47m), the Blues have spent €464 million this summer and exceeded the billion euros spent since the arrival of Todd Boehly at the head of the club. It remains to be seen whether, this time, these expenses will have a positive impact on the results of the club.

The London club is followed by… Al Hilalthe first Saudi club in this ranking with a total budget of €353 million and the worst balance between purchases and sales (€1.4 million). Neymar, Malcom, Mitrovic, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kalidou Koulibaly, Yassine Bounou, these are the new names that make up the team currently leading the Saudi Pro League.

Paris on the catwalk

It’s the Paris Saint Germain who completes the podium. After a generally unsuccessful season, the club from the capital has greatly strengthened itself in this transfer window between good moves (Asensio, Skriniar) and big expenses like Ousmane Dembélé (50M€), Manuel Ugarte (60M€) and of course the very last Randal Kolo Muani, who became the third most expensive player in club history. With 349.5 million euros spent and a renewed workforce and a 100% French attack, the Ile-de-France club hopes to once again shine on the European scene.

Unsurprisingly, the rest of the top 10 is made up of five English clubs and two Saudi clubs. Note that Real Madrid, rather calm with the exception of Jude Bellingham, is only 15th in this ranking, and that FC Barcelona is the 26th club having spent the least this summer with a total sum of 3.4 million euros.

The 2nd biggest spending French club is Monaco (25th with 85M€), followed by Marseille (30th with 72M€). The summer transfer window remains open in Belgium, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Russia, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
