Ekitike, it’s over

With his aborted transfer to Frankfurt, Hugo Ekitike is still under contract with Paris Saint-Germain. But his playing time prospects appear very limited.

His case has caused much ink to flow. Hugo Ekitike was a central figure on the last day of the Paris Saint-Germain transfer window. Because the former player of the Stade de Reims found himself involved, somewhat in spite of himself, in the soap opera of the transfer of Randal Kolo Muani.

For a few hours, Ekitike was the one who blocked the Bondynois’ arrival at PSG. Because Eintracht Frankfurt absolutely wanted to recruit a striker before selling Kolo Muani. And because Ekitike, precisely, rejected the advances of the German club.

Ekitike, a problematic salary

In reality, the French international hopeful had “validated the principle” of an arrival in Frankfurt. If he would have preferred to join England, where Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace were interested in his case, Ekitike agreed to go back to the Bundesliga. But the negotiations stalled “on contractual aspects and commissions”, explains The Team. It must be said that the 600,000 euros monthly that the striker receives at PSG are not possible for a club like Frankfurt, while this sum would undoubtedly have frightened the Premier League teams less.

In the meantime, and since nothing could come to fruition on Friday evening, Ekitike is still a PSG player. But that doesn’t mean his future is in Paris. The former Rémois cannot emerge a winner from this soap opera Kolo Muani, and when we think of the attacking trios that Luis Enrique could line up, such as Mbappé-Kolo Muani-Dembélé, or Barcola-Ramos-Asensio, it is hard to see Ekitike having his chance in the next few weeks. His case will be settled for PSG…
