The Italian midfielder is expected to commit to Al-Arabi, Qatar. A departure through the back door for an iconic player.

Who would have imagined that Marco Verratti would leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this summer of 2023 when the little Italian appeared all smiles, 8 months ago, after having extended his contract in the capital? The midfielder has never hidden his love for Paris and France. Better, he even planned to spend his entire career at PSG, a club he joined in 2012 and of which he was the oldest player. But the events of last season got the better of his adventure in Paris.

Whistled by some of the Parisian supporters after a chaotic season where his performance was singled out, Marco Verratti displayed his discomfort throughout the summer. The little Italian had a hard time with the turn of events behind the scenes, where Luis Campos and Luis Enrique would have clearly shown him the exit. Morally weighed down by the departures of Neymar and Lionel Messi, to whom he was close, Verratti was also affected by the incessant criticism to which he was subjected, particularly regarding his lifestyle.

An unexpected destination for Verratti

According to information from L’Équipe published a little earlier in the evening, the management of Paris Saint-Germain had reached an agreement with the Al-Arabi club for the transfer of Marco Verratti. Courted a few weeks ago by Atlético de Madrid, the “little owl” had also been announced in Saudi Arabia where Al-Hilal, the club of his friend Neymar, had advanced his pawns.
