Didier Deschamps will probably not offer any big surprises in his Thursday list for the next two matches for the French team. He will simply recall players who were absent during the June rally.
Didier Deschamps probably did not rack his brains to compose his new list of the France team which he will unveil this Thursday at 2 p.m., a week before the 5th match of the Blues for the account of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, against Ireland on Thursday September 7 at the Parc des Princes. The tricolor coach will replace the few injured in his group with players who had withdrawn for the two meetings in June.
Thus, in defense, Wesley Fofana (operated on the right knee) and Ibrahima Konaté (forfeited in Liverpool’s last match) could give way to William Saliba (forfeited in June) and Jean-Clair Todibo (summoned in March, not in June) . Ferland Mendy (called up in June, but forfeited) will not return, which is good because Lucas Hernandez (missing since his injury at the World Cup) is back on his feet. Finally, the little surprise would be to see Benjamin Pavard (has not yet played this season) fall by the wayside in favor of Jonathan Clauss (not called since September 2022). But EDF has had the luxury of composing without a real right side for years…
Diaby, new offensive weapon
In the middle, Adrien Rabiot (forfeited in June) will return. This will be done at the expense of Jordan Veretout (called in June after the package of… Ferland Mendy!) or Boubacar Kamara (called in June after the package of Rabiot). Khéphren Thuram (summoned in March, not June) could be rewarded with his start to the season with OGC Nice. But it is unlikely to see “La Dèche” remove one of its midfielders (Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and Youssouf Fofana).
Finally, in the offensive sector, Moussa Diaby (summoned in March, not in June), author of an excellent debut in the Premier League, will simply replace Christopher Nkunku (operated on a knee). Captain Kylian Mbappé, vice-captain Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Ousmane Dembélé and Randal Kolo Muani will be there, as will probably Marcus Thuram, not bad in his first two games with Inter Milan.
