After selling Moisés Caicedo to Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion had collected a hell of a check for 116 million euros (excluding bonuses). A sum that made the Ecuadorian player the highest transfer in the history of the Premier League. With good elements in the midfield with Mahmoud Dahoud, Billy Gilmour, Pascal Gross and James Milner, Roberto De Zerbi’s team nevertheless wanted another profile.

It is therefore natural that the Seagulls were interested in a player who had good press in the Premier League. This element is the Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba (19 years old) who played until then in Lille. Despite only 23 appearances (2 offerings) with the Northerners, the player was unanimous within the English club.

A transfer of €30 million

Brighton & Hove Albion have therefore stepped up for the player and offered no less than 30 million euros. A significant sum for an element still replacing Lille but whose potential is considered impressive. We have also revealed to you exclusively the agreement between the two clubs. Now the transfer is official.

“We are delighted to confirm the signing of Carlos Baleba from Lille, on undisclosed terms. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year contract, until June 2028.” the Seagulls announced in a statement on Tuesday evening. Carlos Baleba has therefore signed up for five years and is already presenting himself as one of the nuggets to follow in the Premier League over the coming months.
