The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have reportedly put their clubs’ places under threat of expulsion from international competition, according to the latest reports from Spain.
General secretary Andreu Camps has reportedly written to UEFA to formally complain about the Spanish government’s involvement in the kissing scandal surrounding suspended president Luis Rubiales.
According to Onda Cero, the complaint will not be sanctioned by UEFA, but the registration of the complaint could lead to the intervention of FIFA, if it judges that there has been manipulation on the part of an unapproved body in the management of the Spanish soccer. The complaint is based on the fact that the Ministry of Sports decided to suspend Rubiales, which FIFA has already done for a period of 90 days.
According to Diario AS, there is little chance that UEFA or FIFA will really intervene in favor of Rubiales. Camps acted to defend Rubiales against government action, but he is one of the few to act on behalf of the suspended president.
However, the complaint could be withdrawn by interim president Pedro Rocha, although his position on the matter is unclear.
However, it seems very unlikely that the clubs or the Iberian national team will face a suspension from FIFA or UEFA.
