Karim Benzema has been substituted due to suspected hamstring pain during the first half of Al-Ittihad’s game against Al-Wehda on Monday.

The French striker fell in the first half of the Saudi Pro League game and was treated on the pitch. It was ruled the 35-year-old could not continue and he walked off the pitch, replaced by fellow countryman Jota in the 42nd minute.

Benzema’s substitute then scored to take his side 2-0 up after Romarinho opened the scoring in the second half.

Benzema and Al-Ittihad hope the injury isn’t serious as the player is a key figure in the Saudi champions. The former Real Madrid striker has registered one goal and two assists since joining the club on a free transfer in the summer.

The forward hopes to get back on the pitch soon to face title contenders Al-Hilal, who have the likes of Malcom, Ruben Neves and Aleksandar Mitrovic in their ranks, in their next game on September 1.
