The owner of OM will see Mattéo Guendouzi’s transfer to Lazio Rome with a very positive eye. Several sources assured Sunday that the deal had been concluded between all parties.

Mattéo Guendouzi and OM, it’s over. According to information from Foot Mercato published on Sunday, then confirmed by RMC Sports And Provencethe midfielder is on the verge of signing for Lazio Roma.

The Provençal club and its Italian counterpart have reportedly reached an agreement for the amount of the transfer around 18 million euros, including bonuses. A significant sum for OM’s finances after having spent some 70 million euros this summer (source Transfermarkt).

This operation will not displease Frank McCourt. The American owner of OM wants his club to be self-financing rather than putting his hand in his pocket regularly to guarantee a balanced budget and accepted by the DNCG.

Mattéo Guendouzi therefore probably disputed his last minutes with the OM jersey, Saturday evening against Brest (2-0, 3rd day of Ligue 1). The 24-year-old French international, more than 100 matches with Ciel et Blanc, landed in Marseille in the summer of 2021, first on loan from Arsenal, then transferred for 11 million euros.

With Lazio Rome, Mattéo Guendouzi should play in the Champions League. A sort of irony of fate since he had been partly behind the elimination of OM in the third qualifying round of the C1 against Panathinaikos.
