A priori, Luis Enrique did not want Marquinhos to be the captain of PSG this season. The players of the capital club have however decided otherwise.
Tuesday, following an anonymous vote, the players of Paris Saint-Germain confirmed Marquinhos as captain for this 2023-2024 season. However, during the first day of Ligue 1, on the occasion of the reception of FC Lorient (0-0), Luis Enrique had placed the Brazilian international on the sidelines and gave the armband to Danilo.
Asked this Friday about the thorny case of the captaincy, the Spanish technician held a singular speech. “The result suits me, the captain was elected by his teammates. Marquinhos is a leader on and off the pitch, especially in relation to his character. He’s a player you want to emulate when you see him, and that’s what we want, a captain representing his team, and he does it well. It’s their decision, not mine.” was content to sum up the former coach of Spain.

Luis Enrique still seems embarrassed by the result of this vote. “He saw that Marquinhos was not a good captain. Besides, he doesn’t like the player very much. So, inevitably, he no longer wanted him as captain, ” explained journalist Daniel Riolo, Wednesday evening, in “L’After Foot” on RMC. It now remains to be seen whether the international auriverde will be established on Saturday evening against RC Lens, on the occasion of the third day of Ligue 1.
