A little over six months ago, last January, the Tigers announced the departure of Florian Thauvin. Arrived as a real rockstar in Mexico in the summer of 2021, the former Olympique de Marseille player did not however experience the same success as his counterpart André-Pierre Gignac. With 8 goals and 5 assists in 38 matches in all competitions, Flotov was not necessarily bad, but he was not at the expected level, he who was to be one of the galactics of the Liga MX.

The Monterrey team had notably chosen to terminate the lease which linked it to the former tricolor international to free up space for foreign players in particular, and to integrate the Argentine striker Nico Ibáñez. A start through the back door for Thauvin, who then bounced back to Udinese. In Italy, he had a little trouble getting a place, but with a full preseason in his hands with the formation of Friuli, he is expected at the turn for this 2023/2024 exercise.

Thauvin demands a colossal check

And here he is again talking about him in Mexico. And for good reason, as indicated by various Mexican media such as ABC News, the 30-year-old has filed a complaint against his former club with the CAS, the sports arbitration tribunal. He claims in particular 13 million dollars, slightly less than 12 million euros. An amount which corresponds, according to the player, to the wages that his club still owes him.

This amount thus represents the 27 months of contract that remained to the player in Mexico, while the player, at the time of his termination, had only received compensation corresponding to three months of salary. For its part, the Mexican club defends itself by asserting that in the contract signed by the player, a clause stipulated that he would only receive 3 months’ salary in the event of unilateral termination of the contract. To be continued…
