FC Barcelona are looking for alternatives to Clement Lenglet’s future in the final week of the transfer window, after dropping the idea of selling him.
Since the beginning of the summer, Lenglet has been on the list of players FC Barcelona want to sell, and Saudi Arabia have shown interest in recent weeks, but he wants to continue living in Europe.
Initially, Lenglet was expected to return to Tottenham, where he was loaned out last season. However, Spurs remained firm and did not accept FC Barcelona’s demands for a permanent contract: 15 million euros.
According to Sport, FC Barcelona now consider it impossible to sell Lenglet this summer as no one is willing to meet these demands. He could still return to Spurs on loan, but this is now the path that FC Barcelona has chosen.
Lenglet costs €16m this season in wages, and few clubs are willing to cover that sum. It’s likely that Barca will have to pay a percentage to be able to transfer him, even as a loan. Freeing up at least some of his emoluments is one of the keys to efforts to register the remaining players, Inigo Martinez, Inaki Pena and Marcos Alonso.
