Sheikh Jassim has won the race to take over Manchester United and will take over from the Glazer brothers in October, with an official announcement on the deal expected to follow.

THE Sun reports that the Qatari banker has agreed to pay £6bn to buy the Old Trafford club from the Americans, whose shareholding has continued to frustrate fans of the Premier League’s most successful team.

Sheikh Jassim has beaten competition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS bid to secure ownership of the club generally regarded as one of the greatest in world football.

This means Man Utd will be sold in full to Qatar’s bid, while the Glazers could have retained a stake had Ratcliffe won the race.

An announcement could be made as early as September to confirm the agreement.

THE Sun reports that Sheikh Jassim’s side are completing due diligence on the takeover, which will end 18-year ownership of the Glazers, who are set to earn £5.2billion from the club they bought for £800million A new era will dawn for Man Utd with Sheikh Jassim clearing the club’s gross debt of £725million, which cost over £1billion to run during the Glazers’ period were owners.

In addition, the Red Devils have the opportunity to make a string of world-class signings.
