FC Barcelona and Spain legend Carles Puyol is set to return to professional football, with former team-mate and friend Gerard Pique as boss.
According to local media Diari d’Andorra, Puyol will be part of FC Andorra’s transfer department this summer. As a reminder, Gerard Pique is the owner of Andorra, which is in Segunda, and managed by former FC Barcelona assistant coach Eder Sarabia.
Puyol has held several positions since his retirement, working for a time as an agent alongside Ivan de la Pena, then as a member of the FC Barcelona transfer department in 2014. Puyol then left his post after the dismissal of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta .
It’s not yet clear what role he would occupy at Andorra, but it would be a role under current sporting director Jaume Noguera. The Catalan daily also note that Puyol now lives in Andorra and attended several matches last season.
Puyol has lived a relatively quiet life since retiring, with fleeting club engagements, and taking part in legends and veterans matches. Andorra are currently second in the Segunda after two rounds, having finished seventh in their first season at this level last year.
