The verdict is officially in. After a months-long internal investigation, Manchester United finally took the drastic decision to part ways with Mason Greenwood who was accused of sexual assault in January 2022.
Although the charges were dropped, and he could have postponed the Red Devils jersey, the Mancunian management still decided to stop his collaboration with the 21-year-old player. The club announced this Monday in a press release on its official website.
“Our process began in February 2023, after all charges against Mason were dropped. Throughout, we have taken into account the wishes, rights and views of the alleged victim as well as the standards and values of the club, and have sought to gather as much information and context as possible. This required us to proceed with sensitivity and care in obtaining evidence that is not in the public domain, including from people with direct knowledge of the case. »
“Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online does not provide the complete picture and that Mason did not commit the offenses for which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he made mistakes for which he takes responsibility. »
And to conclude: “All those involved, including Mason, recognize the difficulties with him in resuming his career at Manchester United. It was therefore mutually agreed that it would be more appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford and we will now work with Mason to achieve that result. »

Mason Greenwood reacts immediately to the Mancunian press release
