Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino has revealed that Lionel Messi will continue to start with the Herons until he asks to be rested himself.
The former FC Barcelona coach has hinted that the issue of Lionel Messi being rested is entirely up to the player himself and that Martino will only accede to a possible request from the player. He also said the 36-year-old World Cup winner will not be rested in Inter Miami’s next US Open Cup game.
“It’s a conversation we had a few days ago, that he should rest and recover every 3-4 days, clearly Wednesday won’t be that day, but you all know how he is, he like to play. So as long as he doesn’t mention anything, he’ll keep playing“, Martino told American reporters.
Messi recently helped Inter Miami win the inaugural League Cup by scoring his 10th goal in seven appearances for his new club.
The League Cup title is the 44th trophy won by the Argentinian, who is now the most decorated player in history.
